KMI team steps up to the GHA Challenge

KMI’s Jonathan Edwards, Mark Rittenberg, Gary King and Mike Taylor

KMI’s Jonathan Edwards, Mark Rittenberg, Gary King and Mike Taylor took part in yet another adventure recently, the GHA challenge 2012. All the blood, sweat and tears ended with our guys storming home in a very respectable overall third place, having being pipped by Askams who took second and Siemens who won the coveted first prize trophy.

Held over the weekend of September 8/9 in the beautiful region of North Wales, the event sets out to support a number of charities: WaterAid, Francis House Children’s Hospice, Yorkshire Air Ambulance and Halton Haven Hospice.

The contest consisted of 12 teams of construction “professionals” competing against each other over a series of scored stages on land and water. It involved an orienteering challenge covering 14K, a pub quiz, a 4K canoe challenge around a lake, a 10K run, Go Ape style trapeze and rope work suspended from height and a Karaoke contest, all rounded off with more orienteering that saw two of the team compete on mountain bikes.

Although they said the last day was tough they would do it all again, just as long as they don’t have to suffer Mike singing any more Lionel Ritchie classics in the Karaoke!

Last year the ‘Challenge’ was able to raise over £23,000 for the chosen charities but this year they hope to beat that total, the overall figure has not been released yet we will report back once we know, along with displaying a photo of KMI's third place trophy. Well done team, you did KMI proud!
