Digger day for Grange Pre-school

Grange digger day

Over the past 12 months the children at Grange Pre-School, overlooking the works at Grange, had become increasingly intrigued as they watched the comings and goings of the diggers and crane activities on site. It was with great excitement that they learned that Sam Maidment had organised a Digger Day for them to get up close to an actual ‘digger’.

The day came and the children all aged three years old and under, arrived with great trepidation and a parent in tow.

Paul Romanko, Jill Doyle and Angela King introduced themselves to the Pre-school teachers, parents and then to the children. The team gave out pictures to do with the project so that the children might have a better understanding about what goes on, on site. Eagerness spilled over when Paul suggested that we go outside to look at the digger but in order to do that the children had to wear our especially produced hi viz vests and mini safety helmets.

Once outside, the children were escorted and encouraged to have their photograph taken inside of the digger cabin and outside near to the bucket.

Then it was inside for a warm and to start the colouring competition. Choosing a winner was rather difficult and so it was declared a ‘tie’ as Paul could not decide! So, it was ‘goody bags’ all round!!

Nichola Mellor, Grange Playgroup leader was delighted with the day and said 'The day was well organised; the activities were age-appropriate and exactly what I was hoping for plus the gifts were thoughtful and generous. Our parents were all very impressed. Thankyou to everyone who has had any involvement with the Preschool during your time on site. Our 18 month olds noticed before we did and are disappointed that the big crane has gone! We will miss you.’
