Lostock and Keswick awards are ICEing on the cake

The success of two recent KMI projects has been recognised at the Institution of Civil Engineers North West award ceremony at Chester Race Course on 7 February.

The Lostock WTW project won the ICE North West Civil Engineering Large Project of the Year 2014 award (pictured), which recognises excellence in civil engineering schemes over the value of £0.5million. This was a major extension to Lostock Water Treatment Works by United Utilities to increase output in support of the Haweswater Aqueduct outage by the addition of six 14m long x 4.5m wide by 6.5m high prefabricated filter units. Not only were these the largest units that could be transported to site by road but they maximised use of the available area.

The Civil Engineering Community Award 2014, which is presented to the civil engineering project which demonstrates tangible quality of life benefits to communities within the North West, was scooped by United Utilities' Keswick Foul Flooding and Alleviation scheme. This was an environmental and flood alleviation scheme to improve water quality in Bassenthwaite Lake and prevent sewer flooding in Elliot Park. It also included improvements to the local wastewater treatment works and a new sewer network across the town.

Congratulations to everyone involved.
